I had some work printed out today, for the first time in ages! It's nice to see some images find their way out of the computer. I'll even be putting them on walls, for the Sussex Showcase on Wednesday. Along with all my talented artistic and musical magical friends who'll be showing their wears and singing their songs.
I just finished some work for the newly named O You Broken Eyes, previously Crowns on the Rats Orchestra. They will be playing on wednedsday too.

I wish I was one of those really early birds. Wakes up at the first glint of light, walks the dog, reads a book, does all the washing, tidies up, has a bath, bakes a cake, writes a book, paints a picture and everything else, before the earth has even stirred, yawned, stretched like a cat and blinked its eyes.
"Oh, good morning!" I'd say. "I've made you eggs!"
..I try but the best I can manage is about 9 O'clock, and if I'm lucky no one in the house has woken yet, it's still quiet and I can pretend its 6.30 in the morning. I flick the kettle on, say hello to the whole city, and enjoy the first cup of tea of the day.

I've been in hibernation. It may seem like I have not done any work of late, but that is untrue! Let's catch up, first with snippets of words...

I've had a beautiful morning, I got up, showered, cleaned the kitchen, and left the house before another soul appeared. A crispy-cold morning met me at the door, and the sun is doing its best to warm up the earth. I left the house without my mittens to feel the cold. I headed straight to the market, I bought apples, sweet potatoes, strangely-shaped cabbage, garlic, and a bunch of watercress. Then to the egg-man. Half a dozen local free range eggs for 85p! magic. and a bag full of dates and a bag full of sunflower seeds. I pass the time of day with the lady there:
"what a beautiful day!" we say. No-one says this in supermarkets.
Then, to the florist, my treat, two sweet bunches of narcissus daffodils.
"Sorry my hands are so cold!" she says, handing back my change. We talk about gloves and mittens, she drops everything when she wears them; but she gets used to the cold.
"Have a good day!" I say, leaving with my cluster of gold, a token of spring. It's on its way soon. Then, homeward for more tea, fishcakes, eggs, and watercress for lunch!

I've been away and seen Berlin, I've seen towers and giant carpets and paintings of great. I've fed sparrows, I've chased rabbits, I've flown through the air. I've stood in the rain and I've got my feet wet and I've cut my hair. I've been home and seen combine harvesters and harvestmen and daddy long legs. I've been to Kent and climbed down cliffs and I've clambered on the ribs of sunken ships. Now I'm back and I'm going to sleep for a couple of days!

Oh yes, I went to London with my Mummm, and we went to the barbican to see this installation in the curve by Celeste Boursier... we all want a Zebra finch now. They looked so happy in there. Something hilarious about a bunch of humans standing awkwardly still in a room waiting for little birds to land on you, everyone felt like Pocahontas a little bit. but cathartic all the same!

A superhuman puzzle but he is inspired
She leans back twisting this way and that, using it and laughing

Now she has brought his feet, she is connecting them
So that his whole body lights up

my september empire

It seems, september has sprung out of nowhere, I'd forgotten about september for a while. It came for two days at first, uninvited. It brought the wind round too. a few scarves appeared that day. I realised that having finished education for good (for now) I still had that september feeling of slight dread and anticipation in the pit of your stomach, the "back to school" feeling, has been embedded in me. I remembered I'm not going to be putting my school shoes on this september.
So summer flickered around on the end of my nose this year, and I just watched it. People I know, some good are gone some stayed, some new have come and some old have returned. There are bricks being laid for new projects and ideas are hanging in the air. watch this space i suppose, i'm watching it too...

I have been cutting and sticking though... here's one. X

I have been crap at blogging for ages... bad girl. days and weeks twisted into to knots for some time and I turned into a monster for a while. I never thought I would. my passion was placed in the palms of five middle-aged men and tight fisted into small, stressful balls and pushed back into my chest, where enthusiasm used to be... i'm back now, it's ok. let's start again. I am not a perfectionist. i'll fill pages with beautiful things and a few blue words from the wise and me. we were caught out by the rain today. drownings are silent and do not attract attention. now, another one of those times has come when this path forks into two, and every path thereafter forks and each is strange and new.

This film by Andrew Kotting is beautiful. He takes his eccentric mother and 7 year old daughter who has Joubert's syndrome, on a 6000 mile gallivant round the coast of Britain. this is the videologue of their adventures, he uses 16mm, super 8 footage and time lapse photography.. meeting strange and wonderful people on the way.
this clip is the only one i can find but doesn't really do it justice... anyway, you'll get the idea.

The work of a writer is arduous, doubt filled and dull. For much of the time – in fact for most of the time – it consists of not knowing what to do next. Is it hard? Sitting still in the same place, day after day is hard. Actually putting the words down on paper is not so hard, but choosing between this sentence and that, this expression and another, is almost impossible. And yet you have to do it.
